The goal of Project Homeless Connect (PHC) is to provide access to essential services and long-term solutions to those experiencing homeless or are at-risk of homelessness. This privately funded event focused on eliminating the barriers the homeless population faces daily.
The event, held this year on May 17th, treated those attending with a free one-stop shop event with local medical, housing and employment providers. A new location for 2017, PHC was held at the Shasta District Fairgrounds in Anderson. Complementary transportation was provided to and from the event thanks to the Redding Area Bus Authority (RABA). Guests were provided breakfast and lunch thanks to some very generous donors. Over 450 citizens attended throughout the day.
There were numerous success stories during the event. Vernon Price, formerly of Homeless Voices of Redding, spoke of an elderly woman at the bus station in downtown Redding who didn’t have the funds to ride the bus to a food bank for food. Mike personally drove the man to the VA clinic in Redding where they provided his medical review and release before checking in to Empire Recovery Center. Because of PHC, this man was given a fresh start on life.
